How to care for your Invisalign Aligners?

If you have decided to start your Invisalign treatment you’re probably wondering how to take care of your new clear braces.

Invisalign trays need to be cleaned gently with water and a very soft toothbrush to avoid scratching them. Your aligners are more fragile than you natural teeth and need to be taken care of gently.

In this blog, we’ll show you some oi the best practices to keep your trays clean and sanitized.

Brush your teeth and your aligners

It’s best to brush your aligners, whenever you brush your teeth. That means that you’ll be brushing them at least twice a day. For the best results, we recommend having a separate toothbrush for your Invisalign trays. It’s also best to use cold water instead of hot water, as it may warp the plastic of the aligners. Be sure to brush the entire tray inside and out, making sure to rinse it out completely.

Do not use toothpaste to clean your Invisalign Trays

Tooth paste can be abrasive and will scratch your aligners overtime rendering them opaque. Instead you can use cold water, a very soft tooth brush and some clear liquid soap.

Store them properly

When removing your Invisalign alignment trays for any reason, be sure to store them carefully in their storage case. If you do not have a case in hand, the second-best alternative is to place them in a glass of cold or room temperature water.

To keep potential smell away, and improve the freshness of your aligners, store them in diluted antimicrobial mouthwash while you eat. This helps reduce the buildup of plaque and will help improve your breath.

Brush your aligners after every meal

Although you should brush your alignment trays twice a day, the best way to avoid discoloration and smells is to brush them between meals. If you don’t have the time to brush them after each meal, then you can take them out and rinse your mouth thoroughly, cleaning your aligners with cool water.
